The Why:
I enjoy a lot of contemporary Christian worship songs. I also thoroughly enjoy finding common patterns/chord progressions in songs of all kinds. Working at camp in Okoboji, IA, I had some friends who also like those things, and we decided to make an epic mash-up for the staff talent show. We thought about worship and church camp songs that have the I - V - vi - IV chord pattern, and came up with five choruses that we could mash up. Then we added on “Let It Go” and “Don’t Stop Believing” at the end, because 1.)that was the year Frozen was still in hype mode, and 2.)for kicks and giggles. :)
The How:
There ended up being five of us that put it together, so that worked out for one song per person. I played in D on the guitar with the capo on 2 or 3, so that the ranges of all the songs were doable for us. We started with everyone singing the chorus of “Blessed Be Your Name,” then one person would introduce a new song as we continued the first, all the way until we had the five worship choruses being sung simultaneously. Then we all dropped everything and went into “Let it Go,” layering in “Don’t Stop Believing” at the very end. Below are the lyrics to each chorus. Enjoy!
