Teaching Artist

Jocelyn spent a summer as an education intern at the Rose Theater (Omaha, NE). There she co-taught creative drama camps on a variety of topics and for varying types of students, as well as youth production camps putting on an entire show.

In creative drama camps at the Rose, students are introduced to the foundations of acting, and using their body, voice and imagination to explore the worlds of different characters. Jocelyn has taught camps on the following themes: Haunted Theater, The Little Mermaid, Lion King Kids, Cinderella Kids, My Little Pony, Disney's Descendants, Young Actors and Directors, Fairy Tales, and Musical Arranging and Auditioning.

Jocelyn has spent three summers working as a counselor at Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camps  and one year on the YMT. She has led teams of counselors putting on day camps in different cities around the Midwest, Bible studies and Wednesday youth group, camp games and activities, helped to write and perform skits and dramas, and lead worship for youth and families - complete with silly songs with actions! At her church, she directs a Sunday School drama class for youth, learning about drama and basics of film.

During her time at Midland University, Jocelyn directed a one-act play, led choir warm-ups and rehearsals as a section leader, and created a Youtube series called "Theatre Tips & Tricks For Ministry." Check out all the examples listed below for a glimpse at Jocelyn's teaching experience!

Jocelyn's Recent Projects:

Day Camp: Skits, Shares & Theme Verses

As a day camp leader and counselor at Ingham Okoboji, I gave short chapel messages called shares, performed in original skits about camp themes, and helped create theme verses - the summer's Bible verses set to song tunes with actions - to teach to campers. See below for videos from day camp and of a share around the campfire!

Theatre Tips & Tricks For Ministry

For my senior thesis at Midland, I wrote, organized, filmed, and created a Youtube series called "Theatre Tips & Tricks For Ministry." This series of 6 short films unfolds a sermon and skit of the Prodigal Son story from Luke 15, and serve as a resource for anyone looking to apply techniques from the performing arts to enhance their communication impact and ministry style.

Somebody Famous (One-Act)

For my directing course at Midland, I adapted a 15-minute segment from the script of "Somebody Famous" by D.M. Larson and directed it with a cast of fellow students.

Musical Arranging Lesson: Intro to Mash-ups & Medleys!

I taught an afternoon workshop with teen students at the Rose about arranging music. The students created their own mashup about their play of Pinocchio!  See a sample lesson plan, and a video of the class's resulting arrangement below!

Drama Camp Games and Activities

As an intern at the Rose Theater, I led and co-led before and after camp care activities as well as the camps themselves. These activites ranged from body, voice and imagination warm-ups to energy and focus ensemble games, to applying camp themes to acting techniques.

See videos of warm-ups and drama games at the bottom of the page!

Lion King Jr. Age 8-12 Production Camp

I co-directed a four week-long production camp at the Rose Theater in which students performed the musical The Lion King Jr. I assisted in leading daily camp activities, blocked some scenes from the show, helped lead warmups and rehearsals, and operated sound cues for the students' performances. See below for a sample syllabus for this production camp.
